Bird Flu Level 3

It seems that some people to people transmission of bird flu is beginning to be observed. There is a 6 level alarm system for world pandemic. The highest is level 6. Some people are urging the alarm be raised to level 4. It is now at level 3.

There have been a number of "clusters" of human bird flu. This is led to a concern that they are not just numbers of people getting bird flu from the same diseased bird. It seems that there is some people to people transmission going on.

Anonymous said...: Saw a PBS show. It was on AIDS today and referred to the Plague many years ago. "They" have found out that mutation 32 of gene CCR5 kept people from dying of the Plague in Europe. This same mutation keeps a person from being infected by the HIV-virus. Against HIV it might take two copies of the mutation. Against the Plague people with only one copy were resistant but didn't have to die, they might have gotten the Plague yet overcome it. People with two copies were completely immune.
The mutation keeps the cells of the body, specifically the white blood cells I guess, from being penetrated by both the Plague and HIV-virus. Some of the decendants of the Plague survivors emmigrated to the U.S., not to Africa. Africa has found no instance of the mutation.
Fascinating that God used genes to protect people of the Plague.
God could use genes again I suppose, but I wonder if or how he will protect Christians specially from the bird flu or (other) end-time plagues. Since genes were beyond conception of the people at the time of the Plague, God might easily protect in a way that is beyond us.; 1:02 AM, June 06, 2006
