US Finally, Cautiously Backs Afghan Christian

A 42 year old man in Afghanistan who converted from Islam to Christianity 16 years ago, is being tried under Sharia law which demands death for any Muslim who rejects Islam. So far, the US has said little or nothing about the trial. Now, finally, and probably because Italy has declared that it will withdraw its peace keeping troops if the Afghan government goes forward with this trial, the US is starting to take careful steps of questioning the government.

Germany has also indicated that they won't take this sitting down. They are threatening direct intervention. The man on trial converted to Christianity while on a 9 year stay in Germany. He returned to Afghanistan to recover two daughters in 2002. His father resisted this attempt and denounced his son as a convert and reported him to the police.

What insanity rules this land? Where is the US backbone ? Christians died to set Afghanistan free from it's own religious madness. Now we will say little or nothing about its barbaric laws? USA, get some guts.

The public face of America--covervative or liberal--has tried very hard to distinguish between 'normal peaceful muslims' and the extremist-jihadist-terrorists. They say "it's not a religion, it a political ideology" or that Islam "has been hijacked". Very few public speakers have the guts to say that the real problem is Islamic fundementalism--an honest, serious practice of Islam itself. (And that's not meant to provoke gutteral hatred or knee-jerk reactions. It's just to say that an honest intellection assessment of Islam is that it's a violent, militant, oppressive worldview that has institutionalized seventh century arabic life and culture into a religion.) Those few who have the guts to say it aren't the poster-children of American foreign policy. Bush is being led around by his neocon advisors who know nothing of Islam and would just have you believe it's "a religion of peace" despite the very word Islam meaning "subjegation". You know why nobody want to say this publically? Because no one wants to upset 1.4 billion muslims worldwide who are winning over this planet by nothing more than a general sense of fervent commitment that's better than nominal Western Christianity, and because they actually have some sort of family values, and they're breeding us into the minority.; 3:13 PM, March 22, 2006
