Pick-and-Pay Cable

The concept of pick-and-pay cable is making headway. Because cable companies sell you a "package", you and I are in effect subsidizing the porno end of cable services. We are paying for services that we don't want, need, or respect. We should be able to pick only the channels we want to watch and only pay for them.

The cable industry resists this but it is not really clear why. But today a statement came out from Cablevision chairman Charles Dolan. He said that he doesn't think the concept of pick-and-pay will be "detrimental to programmers or cable operators" in the long run. This is good news. Maybe we will soon be rid of porno on the cable channels.
