New Orleans Goes Free Wireless

Even though it is illegal in Louisiana for local governments to establish broadband connections (and someone please tell me why that would be illegal except to make more corporate money) the mayor of New Orleans is providing free WiFi for the devastated city.

Land lines are only slowly being restored and not everybody can afford a cell phone so the mayor took the bull by the horns and is restoring communications in a quick and easy way. The business district is up and running and the entire city should be going within a year. (Let's wait and see if this ever happens)

This serves as a temporary patch to the infrastructure and gets them up and running at a fast 512 kilobits per second. This should help.
