Molecular Cloud Barnard 68

Nobody knows where these clouds of molecular dust come from but we have at least discovered that they are there. These are areas where stars are still being formed. This one happens to be pretty close to earth (in astronomical terms). We know this because you do not see any stars in the foreground.
You can see through this cloud in infrared and thus see the stars "hidden" by the cloud. Pretty amazing stuff huh?

Cool. Your postings are myriad. I love it.
Astronomers go on and on about "dark matter" and "dark energy," matter and energy that seems like it should be there, but hasn't shown up in the celestial accounting books yet. This molecular cloud seems to be some of that dark matter.
It is the glory of God to hide things, and the glory of kings to find things out.
